Every Home Has a Story. Introducing Casa Blanca’s “His Story”
To many people, a house is merely a home, but to Bob Tiernan, proud owner of 1897 Calle Arroyo in the majestic Diablo Country Club, Casa Blanca represents his appreciation for architecture, restoration, beauty, and history.
Originally built in 1924, Casa Blanca has been meticulously restored to its original grandeur. One visit to the property and guests are immediately taken back in time.
From the posh teak bridge (one of only four in the world) to the historical San Francisco gas lamps that light the property, to the San Francisco cobble stones purchased from the Palace of Fine Arts, guests recognize the time, energy, and passion that was put into making Casa Blanca a labor of love.
The Exterior of 1897 Calle Arroyo’s Casa Blanca
Every consideration was given to make sure the exterior of Casa Blanca was renovated to its original condition. The home’s stucco finish and Redwood bat and board exterior siding were restored using the original materials and craftmanship; gutters and downspouts were crafted using 16 gauge copper in the original half-round style to replicate what would have been installed in 1925; the garage is completely original and restored along with the rest of the home; and the new cedar roof is identical to the original cedar roof, but modified to extend the life and strength of the roof.
The property is surround by eight Grand Oak trees original to the home and a creek bed that flows with modern modifications. A protocol announcing the home’s name was salvaged from a 1918’s Burlingame home.
Before guests even enter Casa Blanca, they feel swept back in time to a life that was simple, elegant, refreshing, and cultured.
Inside 1897 Calle Arroyo’s Casa Blanca
One step inside Casa Blanca and guests recognize this home is not like any other home they have ever been in. Every attention to detail has been meticulously maintained to restore the original look and feel of this 1924 masterpiece.
Nearly all interior and exterior windows, screens, plaster, hardware, and floors were restored and refinished. The Grand piano that graces the living area is an original 1927 Steinway Grand piano which has been modernized to play 12,000 songs just like the original piano player would have played them. The original fireplace stands as it was originally created, though the hearth has been restructured with the original 1924 flagstones that were taken from the pathway to the front door.
Most of the interior rooms and baths are in original condition. Bathroom fixtures that needed replacing have been substituted with a replica of the original fixture; Bob has gone to great lengths and expenses to seek out models that have the same look and feel as the originals.
The Master Bedroom has been lovingly restored to its original condition and the Sleeping Porch is completely original, including the removable windows that allowed fresh air to be let in during the summer.
Old Style Charm with a Touch of Modern Elegance
While Bob appreciates the history of Casa Blanca, he also recognizes that some modern improvements needed to be done to the home.
In choosing to redo the kitchen and master bathroom, which could not be salvaged, Bob made sure to choose materials and hand craftsmanship that aligned with the style, color, and spirit of a 1920’s home.
The kitchen has state-of-the-art lighting, energy-efficient systems, and Viking and Miele appliances which are tastefully hidden behind hand crafted birch cabinetry.
The Master bathroom includes a brand new claw foot reproduction bath tub, two Hans Grove showers with handheld shower sprayer, marble counter top and custom fixtures and mirrors.
On Premise Guest House
In keep with the theme of the 1920’s, a guest house has been built on the property just steps away from the original house. True to the rest of Casa Blanca, the guest house is replicated to match the original features of the primary home.
Proximity to Diablo Country Club
Location is everything in a home. Casa Blanca’s quiet location overlooking the 18th hole makes this street one of the best in Diablo Country Club. The home has a back trail that can be used to easily access the amenities of Diablo Country Club including the swimming pool, tennis courts, club house, or golf course.
Casa Blanca is Looking for a New Owner
For anyone who appreciates architecture, history, art, culture, and pride of ownership, 1897 Calle Arroyo, affectioning named Casa Blanca, is the perfect home for you.
